More MDC in the Community in 2019

Throughout 2019 the MDC has been involved in the communities throughout Bernalillo. Below are some more of the things we’ve been up to over the last year.

NM State Fair Parade

On a normal day, the MDC prisoner transport bus brings inmates back and forth from places like court or medical appointments, but on one special day a year MDC rolls the bus out for the annual State Fair parade. Instead of inmates, we stuff the bus full of candy, trinkets and other surprises to give out to excited parade-watchers.

New Mexico State Fair – Law Enforcement Day

Each year on Law Enforcement Day, police and public safety organizations from across the state gather at the fairgrounds to introduce their departments to the people of New Mexico. Corrections officers gave out balloons, honorary CO badge stickers, spoke to adults about employment opportunities at the jail and gave tours of our prisoner transport bus.

UNITED Tailgate

We were out at the UNITED game to show support for our state’s professional soccer team. We had a great time meeting fans and talking to people about what it’s like to work for the MDC. WE ARE UNITED! ¡SOMOS UNIDOS!

Bernalillo County Mobile Food Pantry

Serving the community, both at MDC and outside the jail’s walls, is a passion of many of our employees. Once a month MDC Corrections Officers have been taking part in the Bernalillo County Mobile Food Pantry, a partnership with Storehouse New Mexico. COs help people shop for goods, carry them to their cars and load them up. For many people, this event has been their first opportunity to meet a corrections officer and learn more about the people who keep MDC running.
